Interview: Bluegrass star Missy Raines on stepping into the spotlight
It’s not easy for a bluegrass bass player to step into the spotlight to front her own band.
A native of Short Gap, West Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Cumberland, Maryland, Raines said she grew up listening to bluegrass, as her parents were fans of progressive Washington, D.C.-area bands the Country Gentlemen and the Seldom Scene.
Raines won the International Bluegrass Music Association bass player of the year award seven times while playing with some of the greats in the genre, including a long stint with Claire Lynch. Raines & her band, The New Hip, play Jan. 26 at Sarasota’s Fogartyville. To read more.
So excited to be named a 2017 Official Folk Alliance Showcase band for the 29th Annual Folk Alliance International Conference to be held in Kansas City, MO, February 15-19, 2017. Stay tuned for showtimes on our TOUR PAGE.

We are so excited to be stopping by the studios of WAMU’s Bluegrass Country and visit with the one and only Katy Daly on Friday morning, November 11th, at 9am EST. We’ll chat a bit and play live on the air, and consume lots of coffee and doughnuts, (I hope!). Listen here.
