Bluegrass bass diva Missy Raines continues exploring a ‘New Frontier’
It’s been a couple of years since bluegrass bass icon Missy Raines left traditional realms for new frontiers, and she’s not done traveling yet. She took time off last year, she told The Daily Times this week, to write for a new album by Raines and her band, The New Hip, and the jumping off point is the territory she began exploring on 2013’s “New Frontier” — a decidedly untraditional exploration of warm sounds and grooves that, while anchored in American roots traditions, don’t sound anything like the bluegrass so many fans have come to expect from her over the years.

Thursday, Jan 21, 10pm- The New Hip will be at Barley’s Knoxville 200 E. Jackson Ave, Knoxville, TN

I’m excited about this new year and all its possibilities and I hope you are, too. We’ve a lot on our plate ahead, the biggest of which is a new release we’ve just started recording. I spent a lot of 2015 writing songs for this project and I can’t wait to share them.
We’ll keep you updated on the journey. For now, we are looking forward to hitting the road and the adventures that will bring.
